The year was 2008 and the month was July. I was on my annual family vacation in the Florida Keys. I remember this day like it was yesterday. We got our early wake up call from my uncle, which consisted of him bangin on our camper door. We gathered our gear and headed to the docks. We left the marina at first light and headed to where we would be trollin.
Once we arrived we got our first lines wet and begin to troll. The action was kinda slow but we were still catchin Mackerel and Tuna. As we were trollin we noticed a storm rollin in from north. We decided to try to move away from the storm, which in the Keys you can if it's not a big one. Little did we know we were headed right for it. Needless to say we got soaked and we turned around and got into some clear skies.
The action turned up as we were gettin double hookups almost everytime we put a line out. Mackerel and Tuna seemed to be all we were catchin, but we didnt care because it was a blast.
There was one catch that stood out though. We had our lines out and my friend hooked up on a nice fish. He had been fightin for a short amount of time before he handed it to my Dad. My Dad fought it for about 10-15 mins and then handed off to me so I can get a turn on. I start crankin and then all of a sudden the reel snaps off of the pole! It was the funniest thing you could ever imagine. One of us was holdin the rod, while the other two were tryin to hold the reel and reel it in at the same time. We finally got the fish insight and realized it was a nice Tuna. Got her in the boat and all had a big laugh. That was probably one of the best fishin adventures that I have ever had.
