Headed out Jupiter inlet at 6am to calm seas, we went to the usual bait spot and managed to get some Goggle eyes and Blue Runners. The plan was to troll south to around Lost Tree in 90 to 200 feet , we found a nice weed line in around 100 feet and followed it south. Just past the Juno pier the right rigger goes off and its fish on, only took a few seconds to realize we had a head shaking Bonito. Quick fight and release reset the line and we are back trolling. We trolled out a little deeper and headed back north with no other knock downs. We decided it was time to deploy the live baits. We set up a drift in 100 feet off of Jupiter inlet the current is cruising around 4 knots. We get the kites out 3 baits on the kites and 2 down deep. We are drifting north and east we reach about 200 feet with no takers. We plan to reset for another drift. Clearing the lines and bringing in the baits I find that my short line will not release out of the clip and my bait is flying about 50 feet out of the water, so I decide to put the bait back into the water and bring in the kite to release the clip. As I was reeling in the kite I happen to look up and see the line marker heading away from the boat and at the same time the reel starts singing. I grab the rod and start reeling the line pops out of the clip and comes tight. Sailfish on it makes a few jumps and comes to the boat, we de-hook it and pull it up for a few pics and revive it for release. Was a great day on the water with some friends, although we did not take home some dinner we did catch some fish.
