Year of the flounder

The flounder bite this Fall has been better than I can remeber in the past 8 years. It doesnt seem to matter where in Tampa Bay I fish there seems to be flounder. The key to catching flatties right now is the same 2 common denominators. A.) there has to be moving water, I have had the best luck on the 2 hours before and after low tide and B.) there has to be some kind of structure next to that sand I am fishing, this can be rocks, seagrass or docks. The bait of choice has been a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce yellow or white jighead bounced along the bottom. Weight depends on current as you need to be ON the bottom. I am averaging about 8-10 flounder every time out. Most are in the 12-16inch range but a few have pushed 18". Weedon Island, Gandy, and Tierra Verde have all been hot spots and should stay productive for another few weeks.
