This was mine & Louie’s first trip to the sub-tropics of Florida. It was back in April of last year. It’s about a 3 hour drive, southeast of where we live to Coral Springs. The whole purpose of the trip was to meet up with guide extraordinaire Chris Licato, to fish for Peacock Bass, Largemouth, and Snakeheads. Master Licato saw Louie’s album of lunkers on the internet and was impressed enough that he invited us to come over and fish. He wanted to meet Louie and see him in action. Well…..nobody was disappointed. And while Licato said “it’s a bit early for Peacocks to cooperate”, Louie managed to hang two real nice ones but lost them both. We planned right then to go back in a couple of months and try them again. It’s a different world over there. Lots and lots of water, (canals, lakes, and ponds) full of not only Largemouth Bass, and Bluegill, but many exotics as well. Peacock Bass, Snakeheads, many different types of Cichlids, Oscars, Armored Catfish and the list goes on and on. It’s an experience that I’m sure “Lunker Louie” will never forget. Here’s “first blood”, and it only got better and better as the day wore on.

After that, it was off to another spot, and this is where it started to get chaotic. Louie's first Snakehead, and what a beast. Chris said "they just don't get any bigger than this. This monster almost pulled Louie in. The battle was epic. Unbelievable fighters. There’s nothing else like them that I’ve battled in freshwater. And folks, they are here with us and here to stay. Might as well enjoy them.
The bass just kept getting bigger.
Snakehead #2, with Guide Licato.
I even got in on the action. When you're "walkin the dog", and it sounds like a bomb went off under your lure, and suddenly everything comes to a screeching halt, you know you have a Snakehead. You better be digging your heels in and tightening your grip on your pole. I'm not exaggerating folks....it's unbelievable!
A fantastic day in Florida's sub-tropics, and definately one to remember!
Great report!!! His expressions are awesome!!!
