Still duckin' and a dodgin'

  • With a cold front fast approaching and scheduled to arrive this past Friday night, bringing with it some of the coldest temps so far this winter along with some real high winds, Louie and I had a captains phone conference on Thursday night and both came to the conclusion that if we were to go fishing at all this weekend it was going to have to be Friday afternoon right after school. So I loaded the SS LOUIE up in the truck on Friday, picked him up right after school and we hightailed it to the water. It actually poured rain on me as I was heading to Cracker Trail Elementary. As we arrived at the lake, at around 2:45 PM, there were rain showers all around and as you can see in this photo, the atmosphere was to say the least, unstable.

So with no visible lightning anywhere, and with rain gear and a bailing can on board, we launched and headed out. We had maybe three hours to fish, weather permitting.

A short while back, Steve Parks (C.E.O. of Rage Tail soft baits) saw a post on facebook, of Louie holding a big ‘ol bass that he’d caught on a Rage Tail Toad. Steve got in touch with me and wanted to see more of Louie’s catches. He was very impressed with what he saw and ended up sending Louie a whole box full of Rage Tail baits to try out. We’ve been trying different ones and having great success with them. Today he decided to give one a try that he hasn’t tried yet called a “Space Monkey”. Well let me tell you, the Rage Tail Space Monkey doesn’t monkey around when it comes to catching bass.

We had a ton of fun throwing it up next to shore and dragging it out towards deeper water.

Well Friday afternoon after school doesn’t give you a whole lot of time to beat the water into a foam, but when it’s all you got…we’ll take it any day.

  • Great job guys...Way to catch them up...Sounds similar to my Friday...I am a teacher and immediately after leaving school on Friday, I headed out to do some urban run and gun for snook and peacock bass...Glad the bite was as good for you as it was for me, bc once the cold front moved in, the bite shut off...
