Rods

  • I have been a Shimano man for years and have never had any complaints. Christmas brought me two Wright and Magill flats blue rods and I love them. So this opens the question what brand has the best overall functions and reliability with out breaking the bank?

  • I mean I really think "for the money" you can not beat the Wright & McGill. As I'm sure many of you know I love my Sewell rod that our good buddy Matt Sewell custom made for me. He has good prices (obviously more the the Wright & McGill) but for what you get it is a steel. IMO

  • I have been building custom rods for 25 years, (and using them nearly every weekend as well!) and have lately been using MHx spinning, casting, and fly rod blanks. I have found they are equal or better quality than G/Loomis or other comprable rods. They are light weight, affordable, and I've never had a problem with them.

  • Joe, am I right that MHx is Mud Hole? I believe they are who Sewell uses as well. Would love to see some photos of your work. Please post them, always love to see and try new products.

  • Hello James as far as i know mhx isnt mudhole but i may be wrong,i posted some of my rod wraps in my profile photos or you can see more at my site www.somethinfishy.com

  • Woops typo it is www.somethinfishycustomrods.com   sorry about that...lol

  • Hey Joe I just checked your site and I must say.. Niiice! The old birthday is coming up in a few months and she might let me have one.

  • Glad you like them Alan!  I'm working on a few more this weekend, including an ultra-light - the feel of this rod is just amazing. I'll be posting more pics on the site soon. I'd be happy to build one for you.
